Show uu CROWN JEWELS ARE RETURNED TO TOWER LONDON, May 10. The Crown Jewels, which wero removed to a place of greater safety during recent succession suc-cession of daring burglaries about London, have now been returned to their accustomod place in tho Tower. That fact is regarded as hardly likely like-ly to prompt anyone to try to steal them, but it is somewhat remarkable that Colonel Blood's attempt on the: regalia in 1G71, recalod by this incident, inci-dent, should be tho only ono on re, cord, considering the manner In which his audacity was rewarded. Ho am not, of course, succeed in his enterprise, enter-prise, but Charles II was so impressed by his daring that he pardoned Blood and gavo him An appointment in his household and an estate in County Clare which was held by his family for over 200 years. nn- |
