Show I DEAF AND BLIND PAGEANT IS BIG SUCCESS; THOUSANDS WITNESS MAY I FROLIC ON CAMPUS AT STATE SCHOOL I Surpassing all expectations, pupils of tho Utah School for the Deaf and! Blind scored their blggc3t and ninth success when they presented on the south campus their pageant, "Thej Story of tho Deaf," before thousands which gathered to witness the festival. 1 Arrayed in charming costumes and l realistic gowns, tho pupils of tho school entertained and enchanted their audience by their dancing. Tho festival program was opened by tho presentation of the graduatioir r class. Grant Morgan of Spanish Fork, Utah, received his diploma for tne completion of .the high school course at tho school." Interesting and entertaining from the very first scene until the last, tho Students of the school vcro cheered and warmly applauded. Under tho direction di-rection of Mrs. Isabelle S. Ross, the ' program of dances was carried out ' without a hitch. The pageant was i, written by Murray Allen of theschool I faculty, and portrayed the struggle of I the deaf against intolerance and nct- lect to a position of happiness and achievement through tho blessings ofj education. From the earliest time in history, when tho deaf girl came tor tho consolation of her companions, i sho was repulsed and driven away, ' and her only comfort was Knowledge, i whoso helping and sympathizing hand led the girl onward, until a life of Joy , and contontmcnt is found In study and service. l "rlMT-n CanCAC I The pageant is opened by th Five I Senses, who revel and dance on tne graas. "Wonderfully characterized by Mona Licckllter, Vida Crawford, Elsie Limb, Gladys Jones and Corlino "Wood, each of tho senses portraying Sight, Taste, Touch, Smell and Hearing, Hear-ing, give their solo dances. "When some glrl3 enter, seeking the blessing J of the "senses," they arc bestowed with tho gifts of the senses. Both tno 1 glrl3 and tho "senses" Join together in a danco of Joy and gratitude, but while dancing. Hearing strays away from her companlonu and is lost. A maiden enters for tho blessing of the five senses and only four aro able to give thoir blessings. "When the maiden discovers dis-covers that she cannot hear, Bhe i3 disconsolate, dis-consolate, but Knowlcdgo comes to her and calls upon nature to lend so- lace to the girl. Flowers, butterflies and birds gather for tho deaf girl, and although for a time she finds solaco, she finds that her other companions, will not have anything whatever to do with her. From the Greek episode, through the early Christian episode, Spanish episode, French episode and American episode, tho deaf girl wanders. wan-ders. seeking companionship. Revel in Dance. Among the features which made tho, affair such a success were tho cos-1 tumes, which wore made by tho stu-l dents under the direction of Miss Florence Flor-ence Bennett. It is certain that time I and study were spent on the costumes, for each of the nations and various characters wero excellently portrayed senses was artistically dressed in tho I brightest of color, while birds, buttor-flies, buttor-flies, flowers, Greek nation.
