"When butter sells for ?1 a pound and eggs at sixty cents a dozen," argued ar-gued the governor, "there is only one thing lo do, and that is to stop using eggs and butter. The same thing applies ap-plies to road work." The matter came up when Salt Lake county commissioners wero present to appeal for greater aid to the road constiiiciion program in Salt Lake county. The county officials pointed (out that the state is asking the county I to pay about two-thirds of the cost I of completing old contracts and any of new work that may be started this year. They declared that the county lis entitled to a share inoi'c in proportion propor-tion to that which other counties are obtaining. ! The road commission professed its Inability to do otherwise, and, after Isomo suggested changes were made in ithe Salt Lake county state road pro-l ! gram. H is probable that the county will decide to devote what aid it enn to the county's portion of paving Twenty-first Twenty-first South street, but that the program pro-gram for improving the road from Magna to the Tooeie county line will be cut to mero maintenance for the . present . It Is hoped that the state road tax in Sail Lake county may be cut down to about nix-tenths of a mill, as compared with the full null that wouid be neces j.sary to carry cut tho suggested rond ! program and the Ihrce-lenths of a mill : levied last year. I A large amount of resurfacing of 'cement roads laid several years ago, will bo undertaken in Salt Lake coun-1 coun-1 ty this year.
