Show YOUNG BOYS NOT TO PEDDLE ICE CREAM SALT LAKE. June 9. Members of the Industrial commission of Utah yesterday yes-terday called attention to the fact that In some cases' children of rather tender years are employed in the selling sell-ing of Ice cream from pushcarts throughout the city. In somo cases It may be that these children are employed em-ployed in violation of the state law, the commissioners said. Aside from the. fact that such violation viola-tion Itself may exist, there is tho additional ad-ditional consideration, in the minds of members of the commission of the fact that workers employed In violation viola-tion of the law may not be included in tho benefits allowed under the workmen's compensation act, in case the employe is Injured. The state law provides that "no male child under 12 and no girl under 1 6 years of age shall. In any city of the first and second class, sell or offer of-fer for sale newspapers, magazines, periodicals or other merchandise in anv street or public place. No child shall work as a bootblack in any street or public place unless he Is more than 12 years of age." Another section of tho same statute provides that no malo child under 16 years of uge shall sell papers or other merchandise unless a permit shall have been issued to him by the superintendent super-intendent of schools or other person authorized by the board of education to issue such permits. Certain regulations regu-lations must be complied with before a school officer may issue the requisite requi-site permit. |
