Show ISSUES CLEARLY HUDEBYG. 0. P." I Mothers Insurance, Aid for Teacher Endorsed; Smooth Stand Commended Following is the complete text of, tho platform adopted yesterday at tho Utah Republican stato convention, In I session at Price: Utah Republicans, through their chosen representatives, in convention assembled, again declare their abiding faith In the manifest destiny of tho great public, and pledge themselves anew to tho cause of preserving and perpetuating the established Institutions Institu-tions of government peculiar to American Amer-ican soil and the inherent spirit of its I people, and renew heir allegiance to tho time-honored principles of the Republican Re-publican party, under whoso rule tho American peoplo achieved their true greatness and enjoyed unparalleled prosperity and contentment at home and the confldencoand respect of all the peoples of tho world. Wo endorse, without qualification the courageous stand of tho Republican Repub-lican members of congress, who refused re-fused to compromise tho honor and integrity of our country by agreeing to the proposal to subject without recourse re-course to tho will of composite foreign sovereignty, and congratulate ourselves our-selves and fellow countrymen upon the fact that, because these certain men stood true to tho best traditions of the republic, no foreign fetters bind this nation to any uncortain or ltrnoble obligations, and the choice of its future fu-ture course of aotion In all International Interna-tional affairs still resides and rests with the sober judgment and clear conscience of tho Amorlcan people. Peace KcsolutJon. To tho end that all existing International Interna-tional complications and controversies may bo honorably adjusted In so far at least as our own country is concerned con-cerned wo urge a speedy declaration of pcaco with those certain nations against whom we are in fact no longor at war, and tho Immediate resumption of friendship and helpful relations with all deserving peoples, regardless of past differences or associations. And in this connection we do not hcsl-tato hcsl-tato the outrageous loss of American lives and property In Mexico to the weak and vacillating policy of the Democratic administration, and demand de-mand of It that henceforth no efforts shall be spared to safeguard the person per-son and property rights of citizens In that country and to secdro full reparation repara-tion for such losses already suffered. Blamed for Unrest. Wo view with gravo concern the acute and widespread state of domestic domes-tic dlsordor IntOyWhich we have 'drifted, 'drift-ed, and chargo no small measure of the responsibility for this unprecedented unprece-dented and unsafe situation to the dereliction of duty and policy of manifest mani-fest duplicity on the- part of tho national na-tional Democratic administration. In Its somewhat fantastical and farfetched far-fetched attempt to make the whole world safe for democracy, It seems to have altogether overlooked tho urgent necessity of first making America safo for Americans. Wo demand, therefore, that the national na-tional authorities direct their Irhmodl-ato Irhmodl-ato and entire attention for a timo to the Internal ills and ovllo which now beset the country, and spare no time or effort In tho promoting of such measures and tho creating of Buch agencies as will effectually curb allko tho greed of tho profiteers, the graft of the officeholders and thoso other sinister Influences and organizations that would openly violate all personal and property right, and which seek, In fact, tho very overthrow of the government. gov-ernment. Deport Undesirables. To this end we demand the speedy deportation of all undesirablo aliens within our bordors, and sovore punishment punish-ment for such of our citizens as arc found to bo conspiring against the government, and, moreover, we do-mand do-mand that admission be henceforth denied to all Immigrants who aro unworthy un-worthy to share in tho opportunities which this country affords, or are incapable in-capable of assuming "and exorcising tho obligations of good American citizenship. citi-zenship. Support Arbitration. We urge tho necessity of providing by law for the satisfactory solution of differences arising between capital and labor, such as will furnish an equitable basis of settlement for both parties to tho controversy and protect tho vital Interests of the general public pub-lic at tho same timo. Wo recognize tho fact that poorly paid, underfed and overworked labor becomes a liability lia-bility to tho community and that the man who works with his hands is entitled en-titled to a fair sharo of what ho produces. pro-duces. Capital also, must bo assured of steady and dependable service, and bo allowed to operato without unwarranted unwar-ranted interruption; otherwlso tho whole fabric of our industrial system will break apart. The only fair exchange ex-change in the field of American industry in-dustry is an honest day's pay for an honest day's work. M'atornlly Insurance. Wo urgo tho onacimont of such -federal legislation as will Improvo and make moro wholesomo tho field of child labor, and recommend a careful Investigation on tho part of the foderal government of the necessity for and possible benefits to be derived from a national maternity act. Wo profoundly sonso tho country's obligation to the service men and women of the great war, and urge upon congress that It manifest its gratitude, In part at least, by immediately imme-diately establishing a sound and permanent per-manent reclamation policy and appropriating appro-priating sufficient funds for tho speedy completion of the government projects already under way; such legislation leg-islation to guarantee preference rights for filing on or purchase of these lands to service men and women, anc to provide In addition for the extending extend-ing of liberal loans to assist thorn in the reclamation and improvement of the homesteads thus acquired. Moro-ovcr. Moro-ovcr. wo .suggest the advisability of convc'rtlng a substantial portion of 1 our foreign loans, or tho Interest de- rived therofrom, Into funds to bo devoted de-voted to such purpose. Stand of Smoot. We demand an Immediate curtailment curtail-ment of governmental oxtravagance and the waste of public funds, and heartily commend our senior senator, the Honorable Reed Smoot, for his uncompromising un-compromising stand for an oconomlcal and efficient administration of federal affairs, and for his untiring efforts to effect a substantial reduction of the tax burdens now resting heavily on the peoplo and a more equitable apportionment ap-portionment of the same. Also, we demand a speedy return of constitutional government, such as will enable each co-ordinate branch or agency of the federal government to function in its own propor channel without undue or unwarranted lnter-eronco lnter-eronco on tho part of anothor, and wo demand the prompt repeal of such extraordinary ex-traordinary war measures as will result re-sult in the Immediate return to the peoplo themselves of certain powers and privileges which were suspendod for war purposes and no other. Aid for Teachers. And as to the mattor of immediate concern to our state, we declare In fa-for fa-for of and demand an early revision of our school and tax laws, such as will make posslblo tho payment to public school teachors of salaries commensurate commen-surate with their services. |
