Show GENERAL LOSS IN N1ST0GKS Continued Liquidation Causes Decline Extending Throughout Through-out Session NEW YORK, May 24. Trading was quiet and featureless at the opening of today's stock market, leaders recording re-cording only fractional advances and declines from last week's final prices. Within .the first half hour, however, selling of oils, steels, equipments and motors caused a general reaction. Mexican Pctroloum lost four points, Crucible Steel 6, Baldwin Locomotivo 1 and United States Steel and Stu-debakcr Stu-debakcr 1 point each. Local credit conditions con-ditions were confusing, the improved showing of the federal reserve bank ' being offset by a large decrease of clearing house reserves. Recoveries of 1 to 3 points succeeded succeed-ed tho first setback, but these were cancelled when liquidation of oils became be-came more extensive. Mexicans increased in-creased their initial losses and with active motor shares dro.pped two to six points. Steels were subjected to t further pressure, Crucible, tho center jof another drive, losing six points, 1 while Republic and Vanadium declined declin-ed three points each. Reversals included in-cluded rails at 12 point reactions. American Am-erican Woolen was weakcBt of the 'prominent specialties, losing 3 points. A six per cent opening rate for call money and the steadiness of foreign exchange exerted little influence. Trading became stagnant at midday, following nominal rallies in oils, steels and equipments. Rails were moderately moder-ately lower, especially coalers and some of the eastern lines. Liberty bonds were quiet, but continued to make further improvement over last week's low record. CHICAGO QUOTATIONS. CHICAGO, May 21.
