CARNEY If you ever wtuit a real tough job an honest to goodness real difficult task just try your luck In securing tho game statistics of each arid every state In the Union and the Canadian Provinces. We know it's tough because we have been trying to ge these figures for .months. Several fish and game commissions com-missions want to work with you and make efforts to aid you get the figures fig-ures and some of them see that you get the figures, but there are quite a number who do not even answer letters. In some stales fish and game protection is a big Issue, in others little or no attention is pi id to fish and game protection. This is not right. There is no game commission In North Carolina and consequently getting the statistics on the licenses issued and the kill of game is out of the question. Florida has game la,ws hut no game commission, Licenses Li-censes are issued by the county Judges and they do not have to report to any one, and as there are about 150 Judges In Florida you can realize what a task it would be 'o get the correct figures of those who hunt game in Florida. j Tn quite a number of states the licenses are Issued by county clerks. This Is true in WeRt Virfginia, Rhode Island, Kentucky, Minnesota. Ohio New Jersoy and Vermont. In Arkansas Arkan-sas licenses are Issued by circuit court clerks and the stat ha3 no record.-In jH some states the counties" never report jH 40 that the figures in these slates are IH never correct. In one state three coun- IH 'ties do iot come within the slate' law. These counties do not have to make :any report on fish or game license's, lH Near Time for a flame Census jJM It is nearly time that every state iH passed laws requiring a census onsthf game killed each year. This would enable each state to check up on the. amount of game taken and be able to IH :tell from year to year If game was increasing or decreasing.
