Show HARDING, COX. PLEDGE SUPPORT TO 'DRY' LAW NEW YORK, Oct 2. Senator Harding and Governor Cox have pledged themselves If elected to enforce en-force the eighteenth amendment. This statement was made today by Daniel A. Poling, president of the National Temperence council, in making public pub-lic communications received from both candidates in reply to queries. & nator Harding, in a letter to Mr Poling, said he voted for the 18th amendment and the Volstead law, and had declared for their enforcement adding: "This is a representative republic government ruled by the majority a- expressed at the polls or in the lawa formulated by elected reprcsentativ ei and it Is not within the right! Of an officer of that government to light!) set aside the will of the people as so expressed but I may say that i am opposed to the re-eslabllshment of the traffic in Intoxicating liquors and will use whatever Influence or power I possess to pre vent such re-establish -men! " Governor Cox said: "I recognise the lMlj amendment as a definite part of the constitution and the laws enacted thereunder ..ill bs observed and enforced " |
