Mrs Wheeler appeared before the city court yesterday morning on charges pre for red by her legal hmh.md p.fter federal authorities bad declined to prosecute Mrn Wheeler and David Stauffer for alleged violation of the Mann act. According to Mrs. Wheeler's story, she marrlfd George Wheeler. Wheel-er. 33 years old, at Caldwell Ida., April 21. 1918. On October 10. 19 IB, she deserted her husband, she alleges, while living In Ogden. During the time she deserted Wheeler and met Henricl. she made two trips from I'tah to Westwood'i C:il . in company with Stauffer. the police 'say. these trips constituting a Violation of the Mann act according to the officers. At Westwood she met Kay Henricl, Hen-ricl, on .March 20. Henricl had just been relascd from military service. On March 27, the couple were married Mrs. Wheeler professing pro-fessing to be a divorcee it is said. The couple moved to ' Rden and established a home. Barly this week. Wheeler met Henricl and his supposed wife He told Henricl Hen-ricl that If they loved one another that they were free to marry as soon as lie had obtained a divorce. Henricl snld that this statement was his first intimation he had that the girl he married had no legal right to become his wife Wheeler swore out a complaint against his wife, charging her With statuory offense. She waived waiv-ed preliminary hearing before Judge D. R. Roberts yesterday morning and was bound over to the district court for trial, with ball fixed at $50. Mrs Wheeler Is at present under un-der the care of the city physician. |
