I X hat 1 1 without question one of the most deceiving documents ever issued in the History ot Utah politics has been distributed by the Republican State Committee. 1 By title, "layout" and design, it purports to be an official communication of the first presidency. To make the deception doublv certain, an argument frequently fre-quently seen on Mormon Church Literature, has been used to adorn the title page and the name of the actual author is carefully reserved until the end of the last page of the document That that name should be William Spry, of un-ovcry prohibition memory, is no surprise 1 By taking text out of context, and depending upon what he considers to be the extreme gullibility and credulity of the Mormon people, especially in rural sections. Chairman Spry seeks to make political propaganda for Senator Smoot. who is supporting Senator Harding, an avowed opponent of the League of Nations. Church Members Resent I Issue I That the members of the Mormon Church are not coming up to Mr Spry s expectations in the matter of gullibility, is evident everywhere. They are denouncing denounc-ing the deception in no unmistaken terms and will add substantial emphasis to l heir feelings on Tuesday next. WILLFUL DEMOTION I Spry knows that nearly all of the speakers at the October Conference, 191V, pleaded for the League of Nations He knows that Senator Srnoot attempted at Midvale. on the 16th to show that the First Presidency had changed its position He knows that Senator Smoot was requested to correct any such impression. He also knows that on the 23d at Ogden Senator Smoot said. I "I have not said, however, that the church authorities have changed their minds on the subject of the League of Nations, as I have not been authorized to do so." And. yet Spry deliberately attempts to fool the people uf Utah There is no truth in it, there is no honor in it. There is no decency or propriety in it. It is a willful attempt to fool the honest people of this State. Here's The Issue: I Senator Harding says: 1 am for rejection of the League. Governor Cox says: I am for the League. Herbert Hoover says: If the League breaks down, we must prepare to fight. A VOTE FOR COX IS A VOTE FOR THE LEAGUE, A VOTE FOR HARDING HARD-ING IS A VOTE AGAINST THE LEAGUE! CAST YOUR BALLOT FOR JAMES M COX and the LEAGUE OF NATIONS. DEMOCRATIC STATE COMMITTEE PAUL H RAY Secretary. ' H. L. MULL1NER. Chairman m (Paid Advertisement) r ? Candidates In Close Race They iay some of the candidates in the election next Tuesday will run a cloe race Some of the candidate for insurance belong to a "close race,' too, judging from the amount they elect lor their dependents J.
