The abundance of stocks for sale :ind the fact that there was little or no outside demand Illustrated the pro: fesslonal character of the dealings. Bulls weie unwilling to support their favorites. Inrgely because of the uncertainties surrounding the business busi-ness outlook. Evidences of economic readjustment, together with poor earnings, the freight congestion and fuel shortages provoked discussion ai to the future dividend policies of various var-ious companies. Recognition of the benefits to be derived de-rived by the railroads from the new rates and the large expenditures outlined out-lined lor necessary Improvements CAUSed spasmodic buying ol the railroad rail-road and equipment shares. Country offerings to arrive were not large, the car situation being the mn'n Influence The close was nervous with prices 2 to 4c lower, with December $2 32 to 2 33 and March 2 3 5. Corn followed the course of wheat, oDenlnsr prices ranging from 1 to 3l4c lower, with September $1.44 to 1 45, and December $1 24 to 1.25, The trade became active on the way down hcn liquidation got under way. Fair support developed from shorts and commission houses which caused a rally. Corn rallied sharply toward the close because a local trader, who was a big sellpr yeeterdav, waa credited with free buying, especially the September Sep-tember option. The close was wenk, however, With prices to 8c under yesterday's final figure, with September Septem-ber $1 46 to 146 and December 51.23 to 1 24. Oats declined In sympathy- with other oth-er grains, starting to c lower with September 72 to 73c and December De-cember 70 to 71c.
