Show W. J, BRYAil OPPOSES SE1T1 HITCHCOCK Will Not Vote for Him as a Presidential Candidate Under Any Conditions Whatever LINCOLN, Neb., March 9. Opposi Hon to United States Senator G, M. Hitchcock as a candidate for tho Democratic Dem-ocratic presidential nomination was expressed by William Jennings Bryan in a statement made public hero today. to-day. Mr. Bryan announced that if elected a delegate to tho Democratic national convention ho will not vote for Senator Sena-tor Hitchcock. "If the state instructs for him," ho declared, "I shall allow an alternate to vote in my placo." Among reasona given jr his opposition opposi-tion to Senator Hitchcock were that he voted against submission of tho federal fed-eral prohibition and woman suffrage amendments, and had opposed the currency cur-rency bill passed during President Wilson's Wil-son's first administration. Referring to prohibition, Mr. Bryan said : "Forty-fivo states have ratified th prohibition amendment to tho constitution; constitu-tion; it would bo an insult to these states for the Democrats to put up a man who, like Sonator Hitchcock, voted against the submission of the national amendmont after Nebraska had adopted constitutional prohibition by a 23,000 majority." Tho statement, given out by Mr. Eryan's brother. Charles W. Bryan, declared Senator Hitchcock had "signified "sig-nified his intention of filing as a can-dldato can-dldato for president beforo tho Nebraska Ne-braska primary," and added his nomination nom-ination would be equivalent to an announcement an-nouncement that the party has no desire de-sire for success or hopo of vicotry. |
