Show JUST A SUGGESTION. If it iB true that this is a government govern-ment "of the people, by the peonle, for the people" why would it not be. a good idea always to refer to it as the people of the United States instead of the government of the United States? Then when something happens which displeases us we shall not say "the government never does anything about it" but instead will say "the people never do anything about it." The use of the term "people" places the fault where the fault lies in great part, for there is an assertion that the people usually get the kind of government govern-ment they deserve. The term "government", is quite impersonal. im-personal. Its mention gives a picture of the capitol far away at Washington Washing-ton with senators and representatives debating, debating, debating. But when the term "people1' is employed the fact is brought home that each citizen has a duty to perform and that inefficiency or "government" quite often means Inattention to public duties du-ties on the part of the "people." |
