Show TIME OF ARMY MOTOR CARS IN OODEN HAS BEEN CUT DOWN, BUT A PROTEST IS REC0R0E0 According to latest information received re-ceived this morning, the United States army motor transport .onvoy will not 'arrive in Ogden until (he evenlnc of August 15 and will leave here at 6 a. m. on the 16th, thereby cutting Ogden Og-den out of the exhibition which was expected to be gnen. An effort will be made, however, to have Senator Reed Smoot and Congressman Con-gressman .Milton Welling take up the matter with the war department and I request that the eonvo.. be allowed to remain a big part of Saturday In order j that the demonstration may be car-' car-' ried out. But regardless of the fact that the train is now scheduled to remain here only over night, the plans that have been started for entertaining the men will not be abandoned. S. Lewis, president of the Merchants of Oedcn, which organization or-ganization took the initiative in get- ting the train routed through Ogden after ihe plans had been made for it to detour at Echo and go over the high divide to Ball Lake Mr. Lewlfl wired : iterday to the commanding officer of the train, which is now at Grand Island, Nebraska, asking for information informa-tion as to the personnel and the time that would be spent in this city. He received the following this morning: "J. S. Lewis, president of the Merchants Mer-chants of Ogden: The officers and men of the transport convoy express their thanks for your telegram of welcome. wel-come. On account of strict schedule we are following the transcontinental train, and we arrive at Ogden, 'i p. m August 15, and will leave Ogden at 6 30 a. m. August 16. The personnel Is 30 officers and 250 enlisted men, equipment 70 vehicles "McClure, commanding." Mr. Lewis stated that he believed Salt Lake has something to do with the change of schedule so as to prevent pre-vent Ogden having an exhibition such as the train is giving in other places. He stated that he would at once wire to Senator Smoot ano Congressman Welling, asking them to intercede with the war department for an exhibition ex-hibition in this city. |
