Show DAUGHTERS 1' THEIR" 1HL ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annunl meeting of Weber county chapter, Daughters of the Pioneers, Pio-neers, was held yesterday afternoon in the Second ward chapel. There was an attendance of upward of 300 members and a very Important session was held. Mrs. Hayward, state president pres-ident of the organization, was present and acted as chairman of the election which was held. Other prominent delegates dele-gates to the meeting were State Secretary Sec-retary Mrs. Victoria McCune, Mrs. Ann Lynch, state board member, of Salt Lake; Mra. Josephine West and Mrs. Mary Richards, both past presidents of the Weber county chapter. The election of officers was the principal business of the meeting. Mrs. Amelia Hansen Flygare was elected president to succeed Mrs. Bertha Eccles. Mrs. Flygare, for the past two years, -has been a vice president of the organization. Two other officers who were re-elected to their respec-tlv respec-tlv positions for the fourth consecutive consecu-tive time were Mrs. Rintha Douglas, treasurer, and Mrs. Sadie West, publicity pub-licity secretary. The nominating ocm-mitteo ocm-mitteo was composed of Rachael Mid-dloton, Mid-dloton, Kate Toponce, Eleanor Wotherspoon and Ruth Evans. The election resulted as follows: Election. Committees Finance, Bertha Maria Eccles, Mae Browning and Mrs. Barnard Bar-nard White; program. V. Pearl Burton, Bur-ton, history and biographies; Ellen Thomas, music; Bird Reeder, art and architecture; relics, Minerva Shaw, Cynthia S. Pingree. Elizabeth S. God-dard; God-dard; clippings, Alraira C. Rich, Rose Ballantyne, Rachel Middleton; Red Cross, Margaret Y. Before the election, several reports were read. Secretary V. Pearl Burton reported that the chapter now hasj twenty-ono active camps, eight of; which were organized' last year with a total membership of nearly 500 1 daughters. "During the year." she said, "the , camps have continued the study of pioneer music and musicians and the collecting and reading of sketches of tho lives of the pioneer mothers of Weber county. Volume II of biographical bio-graphical sketches is now complete and equally as large as Volume l.j Volume II of newspaper clippings of deaths and incidents of lives of pioneers pio-neers is also completed and besides this, the committee has compiled a volume of newspaper clippings, programs, pro-grams, outlines of work, etc., of activities ac-tivities of the Weber county daughters. Mrs. Eleanor F. Wotherspoon, registrar, reg-istrar, reported that seventy-six new paid up memberships were noted on tho books during the year 1917, making mak-ing a total of 338 paid up members and 14-1 registered members. The report re-port of the relic committee was made by Mrs. Ruth Evans to the effect that 129 relics have been collected and recorded, forty-four during the past I two years. "Many of these," Mrs. Evans continued, con-tinued, "are very rare, some being! from 100 to 200 years old. We are j very proud of our collection, which is being well taken care of, being placed in glass show cases, under lock and I key, on the upper floor of the arnegie ' library building, and we invite you all to visit this department." Mrs. Rintha Douglas submitted the financial report, showing the chrpterj to be in excellent condition in this respect, re-spect, nnd Mrs. Dora Holther made the report of the Liborty loan committee,! showing that the $500 bond secured! last October bad been paid for and thei pro rata money pledged by the members mem-bers to defray its cost almost all collected. Speaking for the committee on Red Cross work, Mrs. Altnira Rich reported that since November, when the first yarn was obtained by the daughters, that fifty sweaters, eighty pairs of socks, twenty-threo mufflers and thirty pairs of wristlets have been knittedfand turned over to the Weber county chapter of the Red Cross. As special features of the program .Mi-veral beautiful musical selections were given by the Misses Cleono Rich and Evelyn Nelsen and Mrs. Melba Road Jones. Miss Rich played "An-dantino" "An-dantino" (Krlesler) and tho violin obligato to the songs, "The Day Is Ended" (Bartlett) and "Happy Days" (Strelezki), which were sung by Mrs. Jones. Miss Nelsen played tho piano nccompanimonts. Another pleasing and Impressive feature was tho reading read-ing of two opems by Aunt "Em" Wells; "True Friendship" and "The Pioneer Jubilee," by Norma Sears Evans. |
