Show BELIEF WORK MUST BE MTIIED ... FOR MOMS . Now (hat the -.var is -won, many Ogden citizens are asking why the Red Cross is planning to onroll the entire population of the city as members mem-bers tho week before Christmas. Chairman Carver of the local executive execu-tive committee of the Red Cross Christmas Roil Call organization, makes the following reply: "Starvation, sickness and sorrow did not vanish in Europe when the fighting fight-ing ceased. On tho contrary, the new conditions have revealed greater opportunities op-portunities for the American people, through the Red Cross, to extend relief. re-lief. This work is just as imperative in peace as in war, though not so dramatic. "Besides, Ogden boys in France or in home camps, with millions of other American soldiers, and sailors have a l right to expect that Red Cros3 ser-' I vice will be continued for them in I full measure until demobilization Is. completed. This means the Red Cross must 'carry on for many months, and I the money raised Ihrough membership dues will help finance the service." I All that is asked of any adult in the j jRed Cross Christmas Roll Call is that he or she shall have "a heart and a j dollar." When yoa multiply these hearts and dollars by the millions of adults in the United States, it is evl-dent evl-dent that a substantial total will bo traiscd if the response to tho Roll Call I is general. Children will not be solicited, as they already are represented in the school auxiliaries, or will enroll through the auxiliaries at twenty-five cents a year, but they will be valuable aids in the Roll Call by reminding their parents of tlx opportunity to j register approval of the greatest relief i work in the history of the world. |
