Show oo Barracks Are to Be Built at Ft. Douglas Contracts for the construction of I about ?130,000 worth df new buildings at Fort Douglas for use In connection I with the army general hospital work were received from Washington, D. C. by tho constructing quartermaster at the post and were turned over to the Lynch -Cannon Engineering company of Salt Lake. These contracts call for tho construction con-struction of the mess hall and kitchen and two sets of barrack buildings for the hospital corps men. Just as soon as the material for these buildings, some of which has to be shipped in, is on hand the construction work will commence. There are no concrete foundations or other concrete work, hence cold weather yill not Interfere with work. The mess hall and kitchen are to meet the needs of the general hospital hos-pital and the buildings will be located directly back of the barracks now being be-ing converted into hospital units. Tho structures will be connected with the hospital units by ground and overhead . passageways, so that a person may reach tho mess hall and kitchen from , any portion of the hospital without : passing out of doors. - The double set of barrack buildings s (are to be located just east of the site ; of the mess hall and kitchen and back of tho general line of hospital build- ! ings. All of tho buildings are to be of wood, and, while thej' are classed ; as temporary structures, they will bo constructed so as to give comfortable quarters both winter and summer lo last for a number of years. |
