Show BOXING MAY BE POPULAR ON COAST SAN FRANCISCO, Cal., Mar. 2. Tho fact that the United States government gov-ernment has placed tho stamp of approval ap-proval on boxing for the enlisted men of tho army and navy and has secured the services of a score of prominent professional boxers to do the teaching has revived the hope that boxing later may bo reinstated in California. At present only four-round bouts between bona fide amateurs are permitted per-mitted but there has been considerable consider-able agitation of late In pugilistic circles cir-cles toward paving the way for legis lation which will permit the return of. at least, the ten-round bout. Followers of ring affairs express tho opinion that with the sanction which the government has placed upon It, much of the fooling which has existed ex-isted against boxing is passing away These enthusiasts are willing to admit that there have been reprehensible actions on the part of both fighters and promoters in the past and, for this reason, talk of restoring tho game includes in-cludes the formation of some kind of a, commission to supervise thesport so that there will be no repetition of the disagreeable features which 'marred it in the past. |
