John Goijsbeek, consul for Holland for tho states of Colorado, Utah and New Mexico, announced that he had mailed his resignation to the Dutch legation at Washington because of his government's govern-ment's action in harboring the former German emperor and becauso of other acts of Tho Netherlands' government during the war. Mr. Geitjsbeek also said that The Netherlands government is preparing to conduct through its consuls a newspaper news-paper campaign in the United States to "Justify its action in giving shelter and protection to William Hohenzol-lern," Hohenzol-lern," Mr. Geijsbeek said this campaign had been started with a note sent to the consuls recently with instructions to offer it to the newspapers for publication, pub-lication, by W. do Beaufort, charge d'affaires, of The Netherlands In the United States, explaining that the former for-mer German emperor had entered Holland Hol-land as a private citizen and was given tho same refuge available to all foreign for-eign rpfnsroi; In his letter of resignation, which Mr. Goijsbeek said was mailed tonight after he had telegraphed the legation that it was on the way the consul said: "This step is necessary for the reason rea-son that It is becoming increasingly difficult to keep silent about the posi"-tion posi"-tion The Netherlands government Is taking in tho world's most momentous questions. conditions is either right or wrong, good or bad. there Is no middle road; there is no compromise with error. Commenting on his resignation Mr. Goijsbeeic said: "I have mailed my resignation as consul to The Netherlands for the I states of Colorado, Utah and New I Mexico for the reason that I cannot indorse the action of the government in harboring tho former German emperor, em-peror, coupled with other acts of the government in its stand during the war, and with the prospect of a newspaper news-paper campaign in the United States to justify its action in giving shelter and protection to William Hohenzol- iern. He declared that his decision to resign re-sign came with the rccoipt of a note intended for newspaper publication explaining ex-plaining the present attitude of the Netherlands governmont concerning William Hohenzollern.
