Show HEARS OF MOTHER'S DEATH AFTER HE LAIS I FRANCE Not hearing of the death of his mother until two months after it occurred, oc-curred, Earl Munson wrote the following follow-ing letter to his father, D. F. Munson, of 55S Twelfth street. His mother. Mrs. Marion L. Munson, died in Ogden, Og-den, April 11, 191S. The letter from the grief-stricken soldier Is dated June 5, 191S. Earl is a private in tho in-' fa n try- "Caission, France, June 5, 1918. "Dear Dad: I just got a letter from Phenious. lie said mother was dead. It was the hardest hit I ever had when I opened that letter. Just two or three days ago I was thinking of mother and wondering why sho didn't write herself. her-self. All tho letters I have received the last tew weeks have -been from Phenious and I was wondering If she was all in. But listen, how did she die? Did sho suffer much? Phenious didn't tell me a thing in his letter. He just told me that she was dead; that was all. "Say, dad. you will get the $20 a month now from the government, and ; I want all of it to bo spent on the three kids. That will keep them looking look-ing fine, and dressed good while they are going to school. "Phenious said he was going to get married. I guess he hadn't better until un-til the war is over because Uncle Sam might need him before this is over. "There are battles over hero that you never hear about, and I can't tell you about them in my letters. 1 don't mind fighting, only I don't liko that gas. That is hell. "Well, dad, I will close. Take good care of tho kids. Tell little Dan I think of him every day, and that I will come home as soon as this war is over. Write as soon as you gel this. Love to all.
