The demand was merely for small lots but offerings wero light, and tho market easily influenced. A falling off in arrivals ar-rivals here tended further to strengthen strength-en values. Tho opening, which ranged from 1A to c higher, with August $1.53 Vt to 1.53 and September $1.54 'A to 1.54, was followed by a decided additional upturn. Oats roso with corn. Trade, though, was rather limited. After opening y& to c higher, with August 70 to 70V1'C, the market continued to harden. Scantiness of offerings hoisted provisions. pro-visions. Commission houses bought, but only In a scattered fashion. Later tho corn market continued to strengthen as a result of assertions that the corn crop as a whole showed a sharp loss In Condition and that the prospective yield had been reduced 140,000,000 bushols from last month's government estimate.
