March 16.Oeorge Storrs of Provo, who is slated for the wardenship of the state prison, to succeed suc-ceed Arthur Pratt, resigned, spent yesterday yes-terday at the state prison making a minute mi-nute inspection of the institution. He was accompanied by Mrs. Storrs, who traa shown through the quarters occupied oc-cupied by the warden and his family. Warden Pratt conducted Mr. and Mrs. Storrs through the prison The kitchens, dining rooms and the workshops work-shops were Riven the closest attention by Mr Storrs. The barns and other outbuildings as well as the live stock owned by the state prison were also inspected In inspecting the cell hous Mi. Storrs asked a number of questions ques-tions in regard to thn care of prisoners prison-ers He also inquired into the method of keeping accounts and the distribution distribu-tion of the prison funds The appointment of Mr. Storrs. it is said, has been decided upon by Governor Gover-nor Bamberger and as soon as the members of the new state board of correction cor-rection are named and qualify It is expected a meeting will be called and official action taken on appointing Mr. Pratt's successor Mr. Storrs" candidacy candi-dacy has been pushed by Jesse Knight, who was active in the last campaign for Governor Bamberger and who, during dur-ing the past twenty years has been regarded re-garded as one of the wheel horses of thr Lemocratic party in this state. As S. R. Thurman who was named as a member of the state board of correction, cor-rection, never qualified. Governor Bamberger Bam-berger is expected to appoint a new member of the board. It was said that this would be done within a few days as Warden Pratt will end his term April 1. As the governor is a member of the slate board of correction he, with one other member, can transact business. |
