Show CITIZENS TO MEET i DEMONSTRATION IN SILT LUKE SALT LAKE. March 26 Citizen of Salt Lake are asked to attend a mass meet ins at tho tabernacle tonight as an expression of their loyalty to the government in the present international internation-al crisis and lo hoar addresses on the situation by officials and array officers in close touch with the situation. Utah's delegation in concrcss will be present at thr gathering and one of the main purposes of the meeting is to brine forth an expression of sentiment senti-ment on tho part of the people that will enable tho congressional representatives repre-sentatives to go back to the special session of congress April 2 with the assurance that the people of Utah are family behind the president and the. government in whatever move may be decided upon as the proper course to be pursued in the present situation. Another aim of the meeting is to arouse interest among the able bodied men of the state in military training and the keynote of the recruiting cam paipn designed to bring the National Guard of Utah up to a full war footing foot-ing will be struck at this meeting. Stimulus to Recruiting. Recruitinc throughout the state begins be-gins this morning and it is expected that the meeting tonight will give impetus im-petus to the campaign and may bear fruit in the form of many voluntary enlistments in the military organiza tions of tne state, which becomes a part of the national defense forces in time of need. Governor Bamberger, who issued a proclamation Saturday calling upon the men of Utah to rally to the colors of the National Guard for preparedness, prepared-ness, called the meeting tonight, that the people of Salt Lake may give assurance as-surance to the president and government govern-ment ihat Ftah and her people stand read to respond to any call of duty Governor Bamberger will preside at the mass meeting, which will open at 8 p m. sharp According to present arrangements, the meeting will be opened op-ened with an invocation by President Joseph F. Smith of the Mormon church. Senators Will Speak. I'nited States Senator W. H. Kinc and Reed Srooot will deliver addresses, address-es, and it is expected that Congressman Congress-man James II. Mays will also speak ifi he is able to reach the city in time from Idaho, where he is on business. Governor Bamberger will make a few remarks and Captain J. -C. French of the 1 nited States army will make an address Much interest in the meeting has already al-ready been manifested, and the Commercial Com-mercial club has signified its intention of attending in a body A section of 250 seats has been reserved by this body for its members, 'tne club mem bers are to meet at the club and. headed head-ed by President Fred C. Richmond, will march from the club building to the tabernacle. .Members of the National Guard and regular army soldiers stationed at Fort Douglas will attend the meeting in full uniform and sections in the tabernacle tab-ernacle have been reserved for them Music of a patriotic nature ill be furnished by the high school cadet band and members of the high school cadet corps in full uniform will act as ushers. Members of the citizens' training camp organization are also expected ex-pected to attend in a body. To advertise the nieoting and arouse interest in attendance upon It Hold's band will parade tho main streets of the city between the hours of 12 and 1 o'clock today, playing patriotic airs Governor Bamberger is anxious that every citizen of Salt Lake and the surrounding towns, who possibly can, bo in attendance upon the meetinc to-j to-j night to gie expression to his loyalty and interest. |
