In a message of 200 words, re-ceived re-ceived at 9 o'clock this morning, and j which appears on the front page of this issue, the Standard, as a patriotic patrio-tic duty, is called on to do its utmost to arouse our young men to serve tlu ir country. In the hour of uncertainty, America never has appealed in vain, and tbe Standard confidently addresses itself to the patriotism of Ogden in this crisis, knowing the response will plac' this city in the list of communities displaying the highest spirit of loyally and devotion. In an Associated Press dispatch, explaining ex-plaining the great stir in the war de- ! payment?, a hint at internal disorders is put forth. True Americans must b ready to strike a tremendous blow, if ever the head of treachery is lifted I in defiance of our country's man- j dates. When the French nation was emerg-, emerg-, ing from tyranny, "The Marseillaise" was written, which has become the national song of France. It opens with the words: "Ye sons of Freedom, wake to glory!" At random, the following lines are excerpted: Hark! Hark! What myriads bid you rise! Now, now, the dangerous storm is rolling March on! March on! All hearts resolved On victory, or death! Now is the test of our worth as a people devoted to peace, but ready to fight for the honor of our country. If the United States, in this national demand, de-mand, does not respond in a manner to bring awe to foreign plotters and impress the world, twenty years will not elapse before the very Existence of the nation shall be imperiled by an armed attack. To convey to the outside out-side by a show of indifference the idea that we are a degenerate people, devoted to pleasure and engrossed in money making, and too listless to rise in an emergency, will multiply our woes and eventually engulf us in a war as horrible as the European slaughter.
