Show RUMOR Of STRIKE STIRS RAILROADS Rumors of a general strike by train service emploes because of the non-enforcement non-enforcement of the Adamson eight-hour eight-hour law today caused a stir among railroad officials and local employes, but they say no word has been received re-ceived confirming the reports. All local railroad men are awaiting -.th interest the outcome of the con-lerence con-lerence held today by the union heads at St. Louis. One of the brotherhood men, well known in Ogden, said today: "The highhanded mistreatment of the trainmen train-men by the non-union Louisville & Nashville railroad, which was applying apply-ing a test of courage on behalf of the General Managers' association, is largely responsible for the demand for a strike to enforce the eight-hour law. The L. & X., which for years has been a bitter opponent of unionism, has pursued a course which Is likely to cause widespread trouble The railroad managers are thoroughly organized or-ganized and the same is t-ile of the train 9ervice employes. If trouble comes, we are assured that the Order of Railroad Telegraphers also will join our cause. This order has sent about 50,000 members, who cannot be replaced. If a tleup becomes necessary, neces-sary, it will probably be complete." |
