March 30 Enlist--Lj ments in the national guard of Utah were on the increase in Salt Lake yesterday, yes-terday, and reports from the officers stationed at outside points in the state indicate that interest on the part of able-bodied young men of the state is growing. Seven men enlisted in the guard yesterday, yes-terday, three men in the regular army, and two in the navy. The officers and governor are counting count-ing strongly upon the influence and activity ac-tivity ol Major Brigham H. Roberts, just appointed chaplain on the governor's gover-nor's staff and detailed to recruiting work, in bringing young men into the guard for the preparedness training which is considered so essential for every man who may have to go to the front to defend his country The governor yesterday approved a number of promotions among officers of the guard, which it is believed will give added impetus to recruiting work and will result in filling the guard to its full war strength. |
