Show If PHOTO. FASHION CAMERA STUDIOS Wide Variety in the Shoe Realm Buckskin and Leather Largely Featured Conservative Conserv-ative Styles in the Majority. Never have white boots and pumps been so fashionable as they will be this coming summer. That is the edict that has gone forth; an edict expressed by that well-intormcd inner in-ner circle which represents the powers-that-be in the footwear realm. The white boots and pumps are promised for soon after Easter, which this year occurs on April eighth. By that time the weather should be fairly settled and one may expect to see the dainty white footwear foot-wear tripping forth with the first days of May at the very latest Meanwhile, woman will wear smart walking boo . and these, in the new spring models, show, tops of light or neutral toned cloth. And naturally, the cloth top buttoned boot offers the more chic and graceful lines. Buttoned boots have come to express formality and are accepted cs correct style with tailored suits and frocks of a dressy nature. The laced boot which for a season or two was regarded as a formal dress accessory ac-cessory is now favored more largely in the sphere of sport and is no longer considered correct with costumes cos-tumes of formal character To be sure, some of the laced sport shoes have tops of fabric, but this is because be-cause leather has grown so appallingly appall-ingly expensive that the great major-it.- of women cannot afford footwear made entirely of leather or at least of the soft, supple leathers which now go into footwear. Nobody wants to wear heavy boots, even for tramping; the whole effect of a modern boot must be light and fairy-like. fairy-like. If the sole is welted, it is The buckskin oxford in white and ton is featured again this season possibly showing a more elaborate treatment m the way of trimming including perfection perfec-tion and stitching The shoe illustrated is featured with a rubber sole and heel trimmed off so close to the edge that it gives the effect of a turned sole; and high heels are worn even on so-called sport shoes that are expected to sec real service in cross-country walking and climbing. It is really not difficult to walk or even climb in high heels if one has acquired the knack of always alight-1 ing on one's toes and of balancing the weight of the body on the toes rather than the heels in walking. A light clastic step of this sort means perfect control or" all the muscles of the body and consequent grace of movement, but there arc women who come down solidly on their heels at every step, whether those heels are daintily high or broadly low. The heel tips of aluminum which one sees on so many otherwise dainty boots, always suggest a heavy step which makes the heel-protection necessary, and arc not an addition to beauty. k I - - f i f t ( ! Some of them measure two and an eighth inches 1 These tall heels give a charming arched line to the instep, and accompanied by long, tapering lines in the vamp, make the foot extremely ex-tremely aristocratic. One must wear the narrowest shoe one can and this, with most women, means wearing a shoe several sizes too long. A long, narrow foot is much better style than a short, stubby one and the AA width must be obtained even if one has to put a number 6 boot on the Above is the novelty cut-out vamp and ankle strap introducing a new detail in this navy kid pump. French footwear is decidruly lower in cut this season. Some oi" the new Paris boots have only five or six buttons and the effect is certainly cer-tainly a bit odd, now that the eye has become accustomed to sixtcen-but-ton boot tops. Frocks are two or three inches longer than .they were last season, and boot-tips as though eager to show their instant adaptation adapta-tion to a new mode, have come down also. Some of the spring boots from Paris are rather fanciful for American Ameri-can taste; for the American woman likes to dress her foot as daintily as her hand, in a soft fabric that outlines out-lines shapeliness of contour but lacking lack-ing in excessive ornamentation. In Faris just now they are wearing two-strap two-strap ankle boots, the buttoned straps extending from a strip of leather which runs uo from the heel A dressy slipper in white kid with double anklet and vamp showing eyelet perforations edged with contrasting color. portion. These boots are decorated with embroidery in contrasting color and have perforations underlaid under-laid with bright colored silk. Infinitely In-finitely smarter and daintier, to the American taste, are new spring boots of patent leather or dull calf with buttoned tops of neutral toned cloth and with an exquisite slender-ness slender-ness of line more pleasing than any amount of ornamentation. For childish feet there are smart buttoned boots and ankle-strap slippers slip-pers for wear with half hose. Fabric tops are seen on these little shoes also and there are all-white buttoned boots of c?nvas or buckskin for later wear. Everyday, play shoes are of tan calf, or calf and cloth in laced and buttoned style. |
