In fact it seems as though there would soon be no space in the summer volume for any other sort of apparel. Sport clothes used to mean rough and ready raiment rai-ment devoted to athletic pursuits, but now the term covers everything worn between breakfast hour and midnight on a summer's day, save only the garden party costume and dancing frock. The manufacturers are partly responsible re-sponsible for this. The title "sport dress" is so alluring that it has been applied rather indiscriminately and one sees filmy chiffon frocks labeled "sport frocks" and equally sumptuous sumptu-ous hats made of silk and expensive little roses posing under tbe cogno- men, "sport hats". The line seems to be drawn nowhere, and one may wear sport attire whether or not one is athletically inclined, and wherever wher-ever one happens to go, so many kinds and classes of sport raiment there are. Manx NKVV SPORT SILKS To the gay awning stripes of last season which promise to be fashionable fash-ionable again this year have been added dot patterns if one may call saucer-sized shaped discs, dots. There are silks too, with targets scattered over the surface; another pattern shows golf balls, and large squares widely spaced furnish still another design. Plain sport silks are in the shantung weave and these come in wondrous colorings. A splendid new sport silk is La Jerz, with a supple jersey weave which does not stretch or sag. La Jerz comes in plain and figured patterns so that coat and skirt may contrast and yet match perfectly. For "dressy" sport wear if one may borrow a term used by the shops, there are dainty frocks of chiffon or georgette crepe and of colored faille matinee silk, the sport character being in the cut, not the material. A sport frock or coat, of whatever material, has a decided snappiness of cut and an exceeding dash of style WHITE SPORT CLOTHES EXCLUSIVE EX-CLUSIVE Some very high class sport toggery tog-gery shows nothing but white white frock, white parasol, white The imported silk srveaters ore in exquisite ex-quisite color blendings , achieved by a combination stitch. Smartest of the smart arc sport shirts of white silk cashmere. These extremely tailored shirts in faultlessly fault-lessly correct negligee shirt style arc worn for riding, tennis and golf and they are much smarter than any blouse of silk could be just now. Of course the crop of separate sport skirts promises to be excellent and the blouse and skirt combination will rule summer costume except in the case of dainty silk sport frocks for afternoon wear. The new skirts are cut with a graceful Aire or arc made with pleats, and yokes extending extend-ing into fancifully cut pockets are a feature. Many of the skirts are accompanied by wide, fringed sashes instead of belt. Tn fact the ash A simple yet very correct sport costume cos-tume for 1917. Perhaps the most stunning sport coats are of colored pontine, the weather and wet proof fabric which is waxed and leather-like on the outer side and has a back of soft silk or smooth cloth. These coats are elaborately stitched on the outer side with sewing silk that matches the bright shade of the lining.
