Show AT FOURTH WARD One of the pleasing social events of' recent date was a party given in the Fourth ward hall in honor of William Purdie. retired president of the Fourth ward choir. The party was given by the choir and consisted of a program of music and speeches, a banquet and, dancing. The musical entertainment consist-, ed of numbers by Mrs John Greaves and Mrs. Emma Lindquist and speeches were made by Bishop E. A. Olsen, President. E. T. Saunders. Director Di-rector Orson Griffin and Organist Sam F. Whl taker of the choir and the guest of honor. The point of Director Griffin's Grif-fin's address was to present Mr. Purdie Pur-die with a handsome gold signet ring, as a love token from the choir which he helped to build up to an excellent degree of efficiency. The other speakers speak-ers also praised Mr. Purdie for his faithful and valuable service and expressed ex-pressed regret that he was required to leave the choir, this being due to his residing in the new Thirteenth ward. At the banquet a sumptuous affair served under the direction of Mrs. W. j L. Porter, Mrs. J. Driscoll and Mrs. A. E. Wilson, the merry crowd enjoyed en-joyed reininescent conversation along with the tasty viands. Music for the dancing, which closed the enjoyable occasion, was furnished by Forrest Prows and Robert Peart SURPRISE PARTY. On Tuesday evening Mrs. Horice Al-1 ker was pleasantly surprised at her I home, 239 Patterson avenue, the occasion occa-sion being her birthday. A suitable present was given by a few of the All-British All-British society members. The even- , ing was an enjoyable one, with music and songs, and at 11 o'clock a dainty lunch was served. Those present : were: Mesdames Horice Alker, V. ; Hudson. A. White, E. Hampton, T. Johnson, M. Taylor, M. Taylor, Jr., H. Edwards. T. Briggs, M. Neal. C. Sandi-ford, Sandi-ford, V. Sandiford. Williamson. Hor- ricks. L. Unsworlh, M. Eckersley. E. Hilton, M. Knowles and M. Riley; Messrs. Horice Alker, J. Sandiford, J. Williamson. H. Hampton. Jr., W. Brish, E. Sandiford, and T. Sandiford; Misses E. Snedden, L. White, E. Alker and H. Alker. All departed at a late hour, w(shing Mrs. Alker many happy returns of the day. MISS HAZEL ALLEN MARRIED. The marriage of Miss Hazel Allen, daughter of Mrs. George W. Allen of Ogden. and Ray R. Plummer. formerly of Minneapolis, was solemnized Monday Mon-day evening al the home of the bride's mother. The young couple will be at home to their friends after April lf, at 585 Twenty-ninth street Mr. Plummer Plum-mer is private secretary to Superintendent Superin-tendent Thomas F. Rowlands of the Salt Lake division of the Southern Pacific Pa-cific railroad, and Mrs. Plummer was a popular employe of the w. H Wright & Sons company for several years. Both have manv friends in the city. POINSETTA CLUB The Polnsetta club held a pleasant meeting with Mrs Harry M. Alien at her apartments in the Broom hotel on Thursday afternoon of this week. The luncheon tables were prettilv decorated decorat-ed in Easter tylc. During "the afternoon after-noon music was furnished by Mrs. Lloyd and Mrs. DeWrt. The club will hold its next meeting at the home of Mrs. Crawford on Monroe avenue. FROM SALT LAKE. Mrs. R M. Wilson and Mrs. Dr. Van Law of Salt Lake City were Ogden visitors last Sunday, the guests of Mrs. S. J. Thomas. |
