Show YARROWDALE PRISONERS ABUSED TO LAST MOMENT BV THE GF.RMAN SOLDIERS Fifty-nine Americans, Royally Welcomed in Switzerland, Tell of Severe Treatment and Suffering in German Camp Were Singled Out for Indignities. ZURICH, Switzerland. Sundav, Mar LI, via Paris. Mar 12. 1 a. m. Laden with presents showered upon them by the Swiss, 50 of the Yarrowdale prisoners arm ed in Zurich today. Although emaciated from their Imprisonment Impris-onment and lack of food since their arrival in Germany on December 31, they are in fair condition. The sailors said they were convlne ed that the raider which sank their ' vessel was the Ritz of Bremen. They describe her as a brand new vessel ' of about 3,000 tons, capable of eigh ' teen knots, equipped with one funnel, two masts, one false funnel, four prpedo tubes, seven rapid firing guns and a wheelhouse which was hidden by the sides of the ship. The funnels had a device by which the stripes could he changed at will and the Bhip's doors were so constructed as to cut off all light when they were I open. Were Brutally Treated. There was hardly one of them who at one time or another, they declared, had not felt the fist of a German camp guard and the squad of five soldiers which 1 brought them to the border had exer-cised exer-cised the privilege of abusing them up to the last possible moment. NEW YORK, March 12 Germany. says a statement made public today by the New York Federation of Churches, should be made aware of the essential unity of our people and of their loyal determination to mako all sacrifices necessary to protect our liberty and to maintain our honor.
