Charles Evans I Hughes, presidential nominee of the Republican party, will surely visit 1 Salt Lake on his pre-convention swing 3 through the west, according to Senator Sena-tor George Sutherland who arrived s home from Washington yesterday afternoon. aft-ernoon. Senator Sutherland said- last J evening that he had the positive ! promise of Mr. Hughes that he would be here. Senator Sutherland predicted also 5 that the national guardsmen would be r back home a few weeks before elec-I elec-I tion time. "That would be the psy-l psy-l chological time to have them arrive iiorae," explained the senator. "Their j friends and relatives might logically . be expected to feel grateful that the country had been kept out of war with Mexico." Continuing, the junior senator from ! Utah explained that he had not at any t time believed in the , possibility of L war with Mexico. Concerning the chances of Republican Repub-lican victory nationall, Senator Suth-. Suth-. erland expressed entire confidence, i He expressed an op.lnlon that the trip , planned through the west by Mr. , Hughes would allay all uncertainty in . the western states, since Mr. Hughes plans to deal in terse manner with at least eleven pertinent issues in his series of lectures. Senator Sutherland said that he was in the confidence of the Republican Repub-lican victory nationally, Senator Suth-' Suth-' to what some of these issues were, but said that he was not free to discuss dis-cuss them for publication.
