Show LEGISLATURE OF UTAH - IS DBWBUTIG I1011UT . Tribune: If the Democrats are not able to do about as they please in the next legislature It will bo their own fault They have Burely elected all of the nine senatorial candidates, and the Indications are that they havo elected every ono of tho lower house of the stat legislature. If early returns are borno out by the final count it will be the first time In the history of Utah that the lower house has been entirely the property of any political party. Tho Republicans Republi-cans have had every membor of the slate senate a time or two and once cut the Democratic minority to only two members. In giving the Democrats all tho members of tho lower house, J. Alex. Bevan of Tooele (who is really a Socialist), So-cialist), ad J. T. Raleigh, Mrs. Grace Stratton-Airey and Thomas P. Pago of Salt Lake, Progressives, aro classed as Democrats a fair classflcatlon, since they were all on tho Democratic ticket Apparently the only possibility of tho Republicans winning a single seat in the lower houso is in Kane county, where D. D. Rust, Democrat, leads his Republican opponent by a narrow margin, with one small district to hear from. Four Republicans. In tho upper houso there aro, In addition to the nine Democratic nominees nom-inees elected, nine hold-over senators. Five of these are Democrats and four Republicans. The four Republicans and ono of these, Frank Evans of Salt Lake, was elected on the Democratic-Progressive Democratic-Progressive ticket two years ago are the only Republicans among the sixty-four sixty-four members of the legislature: Among the newly elected members of the senate is Wesley K. Walton, Progressive, supported by the Demo-crats Demo-crats who osa Republican was a member mem-ber of the state senate in 1905 and 1907, representing Rich, Morgan and Davis counties. Tooele county is this year represented repre-sented by two Bevans. Senator-elect Archibald Bevan of the First district is uncle of Representative-elect J. Alex Bevan of Tooele. Representaive Bevan was elected to the legislature tow years ago and re-elected this year. He is a Socialist, but is conservative enough for the Tooele Democrats, and last year participated in tho Democratic Demo-cratic caucus. A Few Veterans. Mr. Walton is the only new member mem-ber of the upper house who has had previous experience, and in the lower house there are only a few who have had previous experience. A notable veteran has been returned to the lower low-er house in F. R. Hammond of Grand county, one of the most loved members mem-bers of the legislature. One of tho leaders of the next legislature will be Representative-elect J. Frank Tolton of Beaver. Mr. Tolton was minority leader in the house in 1907 and in 1912 was Democratic candidate for governor gover-nor of Utah. Other members of the next house who have served in tho legislature are Joseph E. Cardon of Cache, Joseph G. Bywater, Mrs. Elza-beth Elza-beth J. Heyward and Thomas P. Page nf SalL Lake, and Edward Southwink of Utah county. Incomplete returns from all of the counties in the state indicato that the following will be the membership of the 1917 legislature: Senate.
