REPUDUGHB - H Governor William Spry issued the H following address- to the Republicans of Weber county yesterday; H "Weber county and the city of Og- H den have been very loyal to me H .throughout my administration as gov- H enior of Utah. If the past eight years have been marked with progress along the lines of constructive Republican principles In the state of Utah, it has i been due largely to the .fact that T have "been made to feel that the H , big, fair-minded men and women of H : Weber county have been squarely be-H be-H hind my administration and that they believed in me as a man of honor and probity, regardless of the attempts of H ! whispering character assassins to per-H per-H j ' vert facts and weave a mysterious Mi. story of perfidy and party betrayal H i in connection with my administration. : I "The people of this state have twice elected me governor. It is honor y enough for any man. I would have ; been more than content to have re-I re-I I tired at the end of my present term, H feeling proud of the substantial sup-H sup-H ; port that has been given me, leaving : my record as an open book for friends I and foe alitfe. This I would have : done had I not been forced 'to defend I myself, my good name and my record I ' as governor against the false and I J i malicious attacks made upon me. M l Therefore, I-am a candidate for re-I re-I ' nomination upon the .urgent advice I of good friends in Weber county and I oiher parts of the state who feel that M 1 I have been unjustly assailed, that I . my record is clean and that I deserve I i and should have vindication from ; such attacks. I am a Republican and I hold the cardinal principles of the Republican parts', inviolate, but, as I have said before, I hold and will j continue to hold principle above men and party success, j "There has been no political trick j to which my opponents have not j stopped in this campaign. They are dealing to defeat me singly and in I various combinations, j "I shall go before the Republican ' ; I , convention on my record for fulfill- i J ment of party pledges as outlined in i the Republican platforms of my ad- 11 ministration and if I am nominated I will make the race strictly on the pledge contained in the platform 1 ! adopted by that convention.
