Show WILL CONSIDER U. S. LOANS VOID Von Bernstorff Informs State Department That Loans to Beligum Will Not Be Recognized by Germany. Washington, SepL 1G. Ambassador von Bernstorff today informed the state department that the German government would consider "null and void" any loan to Belgium negotiated in the United States during German occupancy of that country. State department officials declared de-clared they had no knowledge previous pre-vious to the announcement of Germany's Ger-many's attitude that the Belgian government gov-ernment was seeking a loan in this country. It announced Germany's position, po-sition, however, for tho purpose of protecting American bankers who might become interested in such a loan. The German position was summed up in this statement: "The imperial German government, through its ambassador at Washington, Washing-ton, has informed the state department depart-ment that, in view of the statements that the Belgian government is trying to contract a loan in the United States and has for this purpose disposed ot the Belgian state railroad, any such arrangement made during the German occupation and without previous consent con-sent of the German government will be considered null and .void by Germany." |
