The board of regents last night also re-elected J T Kingsbury president of the university for a period of two years, though no official announce ment was maue or tne re-cieciion oi the president Tvco members of the board of regents, re-gents, former Senator George M Whltmore of Nephi and W. V. Armstrong Arm-strong of Salt Lake, voted against the re election of President Kingsbury IWaldemar Van Cott of Salt Lake and Nathan T Porter of Bountiful joined Senator Whltmore and Mr. Armstrong in voting against the official statement state-ment which was made public. Twelve of the fourteen members of the board attended last, night's meeting, meet-ing, which was held at the administration adminis-tration building of the state university. univer-sity. Statement Presented. Soon after the meeting opened the long official statement was presented Though the statement purports to give an account of the transactions of last evening's meeting and to state the position of each member of the board of regents, it was prepared in advance of the meeting and before anyone could have had an official knowledge of what action the board Intended taking. While the meeting partook of some of the features of an investigation, only thp side of the controxersy as presented by President Kingsbury was considered. The statements he made relative to the professors affected by the recent developments at the university uni-versity were accepted a3 conclusive. The official statement contains the assertion that the four professors who were not retained in the service of the university were inited to at tend the meeting and make any statement state-ment which they cared to present and that the professors declined to avail themselves of this opportunity. It is understood that the professors affected af-fected took the position that they were prepared for a full and complete investigation of all the facts in the case, but did not care to appear a: what thev deemed to be a mere perfunctory per-functory hearing. oo |
