Show uu MARSHALL SLUMBERED. "God bless the man who first invented inven-ted sleep," said Sancho Panza, but the governor of Arkansas and the prominent citizens of Little Rock who assembled at the station at an early hour to greet the vice president of the United States will hardly agree with the humble follower of Don Quixote Quix-ote Mr. Marshall was on his way to Hot Springs to deliver a Fourth of July speech, and was peacefully slumbering slum-bering when the train reached the Arkansas Ar-kansas capital. The governor, the mayor the justices of the supreme court and some 600 other more or less distinguished citizens went down to meet the special and do the honors, incidentally making as much noise as they could in order to give their welcome emphasis. The vice president, presi-dent, however, was asleep, and, having' hav-ing' a clear conscience and a good digestion, di-gestion, did not awaken during the ten minutes stop of the train, and the distinguished state officials and prominent-citizens of Little Rock wended their way up town. It Is supposed that Mr. Marshall contracted the sleeping habit while acting as presiding pre-siding officer of the senate. Salt Lake Tribune. |
