Show H oo Hi THEY ARE EXPECTED TO H, MAKE GOOD. H Our new city administration has H made a good beginning. The first of- H ficial act was to cut down the salaries H of city employes which had Ibeen H boosted by the last administration. J This Is in keeping with the platform I obligations subscribed to by A. R. Hey-wood Hey-wood and Miles L. Jones, which declared de-clared for economy and retrenchment . in order that the heavy taxes in this H' city might be held down. H Mr. Heywood and Mr. Jones are H pledged to the people and they must H make good. When ChriB Flygare ran H for office, that gentleman was a free H' lance and was not required to stand H' on a platform, therefore, he has no H organization to answer to and in a M measure is free to do as he pleases, but H his associates on the board must keep H the solemn promises they made to H their party and the people. Hence the H; people look to Heywood and Jones to K so conduct municipal affairs as to ' obtain economy. Those two men are H the responsible heads of the present 1 administration. If the administration ' is a failure, they alone will be held H to an amounting. They cannot plead H' dlvfded authority because they are in j a position to absolutely dictate a pol- HJ icy of retrenchment in every depart- ment, and it would be no discourteous Intrusion on their part to thoroughly familiarize themselves with the details of the expenditures in Mr Flygnre's department. Tho people of Ogden are congratulating congratu-lating the new city board on the passing pass-ing of the ordinances which reduce the salaries of the incoming chief of police, fire chief, city attorney and other officers of the city whose com pensation was raised by the old board. No one act of the outgoing administration admin-istration gave greater offense to the taxpayers of Ogden than the boosting of salaries by the artifice of having city employes resign for a day while their pay was Increased by ordinance. Collusion was so evident that there was a movement started to oust the commissioners from office by court proceedings To say the least, the in creasing of salaries In that manner was a stupid blunder which aroused much Indignation, and the applying of corrective ordinances is meeting with no small degree of approval. Keep up the good work. |
