Show AMERICANS LEAD THE WORLD. U. C. Jackling is developing one of the most productive gold mines of' the "world at his' Alaska property near Juneau. The great mill just completed com-pleted is operating successfully and gold bullion is being shipped to the mint Some Idea of the tonnage handled may be obtained from the fact that in July the mill treated 118,200 tons of ore. Since the plant was started in March, 380,000 tons have been reduced, re-duced, with three-quarters of a million mil-lion tons of ore broken, ready to go to tho mill. The official report says the average heads on all the ore sent to the mill up to date Is about $1.50 per ton. Due to the fact that the mill has doveloped a tonnage capacity capaci-ty nearly twico as large as originally planned, it has been necessary to prepare, as rapidly as possible, moro stopes in the mtno so as to have them available for the increased tonnage. During July, production was gradually gradu-ally increased from 3000 tons, at tho first of the month, up to 5000 tons per day the latter part of the month and while cost will be even lower when the full 10,000 tons are being treated daily, the preliminary estimate esti-mate shows that the cost for July for every posslblo Item, mining, milling and transportation and including all overhead charges, will bo 65 cents. Tins compares with an original estimate, esti-mate, at the time the property was bought, of 75 cents per ton. Tho ore reserves In this property are estimated as hign as 100,000,000 tonB, which, at a profit of 75 cents a ton, represents dividends of $75,000,-000. $75,000,-000. The opening of this big gold mine proves tho value of large bodies of low grade gold ore which can be successfully suc-cessfully treated. But tho mining by underground works and the reduction reduc-tion of ore at a cost of only 65 conts a ton call for the highest skill in mining and milling, and the figures are so low as to mark a new era in gold extraction. Even on the Rand in South Africa, where tho most extensive mining plants are operating, and the ore Is a conglomerate easily minod, the cost is greater than in Alaska. This Is another testimonial to the efficiency and originality of the American engineer, who excels in whatever he sets about to accomplish. accom-plish. Some times wo hear of German superiority. su-periority. In the big things that appeal, ap-peal, the American not only surpasses surpass-es the Teuton, but leads the people of all nations. oo |
