Guotav H Kopsch, a young German employed aa H an Instnimeut-maker by the Carnegie institution here, was arrested tonight H by agents of tho department of justice, charged with violating tho federal law for protection of the national de- H fenses by taking pictures of military reservations. He was held in $5,000 bail and will be sent to Norfolk for trial in the United States district court here. J According to tiie ollicers, Kopscn H had in his possession photographs of H the fortifications and guns at Fortress H Monroe and of tho reservation at H i Cape Henry, Va., wbere tho govcrn- H ment is planning extensive works to H defend the entrance to Chesapeake bay. H When arrested the prisoner said to H have made no attempt to deny taking H the pictures, but insisted that a H drunken sentry at Fortress Monroe H gave him permission to use his cam- M era there. He offered no explanation M of his purpose in making the photo- H graphs. H Kopsch is 27 years old and has been H in tho United States two or three H years. His parents arc said to live H in Germany. |
