Show OFFICIAL TITLES ON RAILROADS ARE CHANGED The change made by the Union Pacific Pa-cific and Oregon Short Line railroads, which went into effect yesterday, from the "Hlne" system of official titles to that of the old "unit" system will affect only two local men, G. O. Brophy and D. J. Malono. Both bavo held the title of assistant superintendent superin-tendent for the past three years under un-der the "Hine" ftystem while under tho old 'unit" system they hold the titles of trainmaster and master mechanic, me-chanic, respectively They will again be known by the latter titles. Tho "Hine" system was formulated and put into effect all over the Hurrl-raan Hurrl-raan system by Major Hlne of tho United States army, In 1910. At that time Major Hine was working for tho Harriman system. Under that system, sys-tem, the trainmasters, muster mechanics, me-chanics, general road-masters, travelling travel-ling engineers, chief clerks in superintendents' super-intendents' offices and high officiaJs In other departments recched the title of assistant, superintendent. The "Hlne" system was said by a well-known local official, to have had a number of good points, but it was too complicated, considerable troubh; having been experienced by persons unaquainted with the different officials, offi-cials, who desired information and did not know which assistant superintendent superin-tendent had charge of the department in which the information was desired. On the Union Pacific and Oregon Short Line roads tho old titles will again be In vogue, but the Southern Pacific will retain the "Hlne" system |
