long- the tho property of Ernest Jrnest Harold Baynes a well WeIl known writer Jimmie e was as a n black imp of a cub and little IS is known knol ot of his early history except that his Ius mother was shot out in m the tho West Westa 1 when a hen he was as very young The little furry orphan was brought Into a trading post by hunters and won his da dally daily y rations simply by making hImself himself him- him himself self agreeable and amusing every Cry one w dh his comical ways Finally he fell In with the Baynes family who ho brought rim him up more than like a puppy almost puppy almost like a 11 human baby n Nobody who vho saw Jimmie as a cub wIll forget 2 forget what comical capers he cut cutup cutup cutup up or how nearly human he be was In fact fact his days as a young oung bear benr are held held m in such fond memory by those who knew him that they have induced Mr l Baynes to write a book about him Jimmie was very ery much spoiled polled and mIschIef was his specialty After he had sta stayed staled ed with the Baynes family a awhile awhile while there wasn't a neighbor within a radIus of a mile from their house who ho hadn't some story to tell of an nn adv ad Ith w ith him lIe He was likely to disappear ar from any anyplace place he heas as as put pat p t on short notice and so speedily that lie be couldn't be traced Wherever Where he Joe stopped It t took him just abort five minutes to prove that he gas as x little devil deal from his mischievous ous eyes e es esto to his prying paws I Of course like all aU bear cubs heas he was as always as a's looking for sweets to tickle hIs palate and would do the most desperate tricks to get whatever hate he wanted He I eu to be farms for thIs reason and also because he enjoyed chasing the tame animals who thrown ln into a panic at his approach In a recent issue of Na re Maga Maga- Maga- Maga Magazine tine zine lne there is a lively account of the tha cubs cub's favorite outdoor sport chasing sport cows Jimmies Jimmie's master once saw him chase chasa some cows in a pasture until they aero ero tired out Not all farm animals can be ba chased however and sometimes luck lucka a was clean elean against him Once a cow he was as taking liberties with butted him for wenty enty feet under a barbed wire ire fence and into the adjoin adJoin- adjoining ing lag pasture On another occasion he deliberately ti started to shin up the hind leg of a very steady old horse who kicked him if not into the middle of next week eek at least Into the further end of this one But usually Jimmie got the best of It IS as when hen one day ho he was pursued by a savage cow As soon eoon as she stopped he stepped up close arose on his sturdy hind legs o gaso her two sw swift t uppercuts right and Ind left on the point of her jaw and then ran up a fence post out of reach to watch the effect Jimmie tho the lovable and the wicked was as just as successful with his human vIctims when it came to practical jokes or coaxing them alor along a with his win win win- winning ning fling ways to o gt-o gi o him what hat he wanted He lIe could be bo quite spiteful too as proved by the tale of how he wreak d vengeance on the unlucky
