(Incorporated) Iiourgard Building, Main 'Street Bineham i'hone 91 Trice $2.00 per yeur.in advance Single copies, W cent. in? any sleep or caring a tinkersdom as to whether a competitor has "no office" or a flock of offices. The point the News editor wants to make is this: He is opposed to uni.'itf his newspaper space for the purpose of slinking mud and vomit at his competitor. It's small town tactics and no thoroughbred he-m-will resort to it. Ahout the first thinj; the News editr did when he took char,;,; of t!i? papr, a few days .lyo, wax to extend the h;uvi of fel-lowship to this self confessed compet-itor and proposed to him that any personalities, thould there ever be any, be settled out of the columns of our respective papers. This was a gentlemen's agreement and so far as the editor of the News is concerned, it does, after we take one little fling at the dirty thrust at our first page. The New man' is a little sensitive about, not alone his first page, but the entire paper. He admits frankly that it does not suit him, but the sheet s juist a youngster yet, and so far, strenuous work in "Our office" has kept the news pilot busy most of the time, along with the rest of the force, in making preparations to do what we want to do. One tiling is certain, in his estimation at least, and that is, that when he has been editng his paper for a period of three years it will have established a rep-utation for honesty and fair play and that it wili have acquired a standing with the industrial and business in-terests of the camp to the extent that it will be able to find sufficent mining news, business boost ing dope and news to fill the front page without having to devote that valuable space to mailorder contribu-ted "Jack Dollar" dope and to cheap hogwash inference hashed ,up from a purely imaginary source of griev-ance against our competitor. We have no apology to make for locals and society news on the first page of the News. This is just a local paper and nothing we consider, is of more importance than the do-ing of our local people, and Well, that's enough too much, as a mutter of fact! To maintain your enviable reputation as a sporting editor Goldies, you should be a good sport. Don't jump at conclusions: The News editor has never given you anything but a square deal, and any time you get to dreaming anything to the contrary, come on down to "our office" and let talk it over like men and devote our newspaper space to news something that will interest and edify our patrons. We hope this is "30." "OL'R OFFICE" I i "Our Office" Is in the Bourgard Building, the exact location being 446 Main Street, immediately in the -- heart of the main business section of the camp, and as handy as a poc ket in a shirt for business people who want good printing done p. d. q., and at reasonable prices. . Yes, indeed Thanks to our "competitor"' for ad-vertising this fact for us and the class of service the very best he had first page, alongside reading, and top of column. 0 yes, we have all those modern print-sho- p conveniences that he told about last week the cylinder press big enough to print four pages at a time and any size potter up to a full sheet, new type and lots of it, so that all advertising and display matter are set in this office, our con-temporary to the contrary, notwith-standing. There are still a few items that you failed to enumerate brother; a new power mailing machine that prints the names of subscribers at the rate of 2,700 an hour, the first of its kind to be installed in the Htate and a machine that does away with the drudgery of writing the subscrip-tion list by hand each week, is one item the free advertisement failed to enumerate. The type-settin- g ma-chine that "we haven't got" would have been here alright but for the high rate of fire insurance prevail-ing in our district which makes it al-most prohibitive. This matter is be-ing worked out however, and we hope " to install a lynotype in the very near future. In the meantime, we're as in-dependent as a pig on ice, we have the material to take care of our en-tire publication right here in the shop, and three experienced printers wJw are competent to do the work two of them who published and print-ed their own papers before typesett ing machines were known to the coun- - . " "" try shop. I guess we'll make it ."' somehow. We have a telephone, too. The number is 91. Yes, "our office" is pretty well now, and we are well pleas-ed with it. The real big feature how-ever and the one we think most of is the disposition of the. office force to mind its own business and let other people's affairs alone. We are not "scratching our heads." We are just printing; that's all.
