Show from til bally f THE RACES IS THE the southern outrages reported by telegraph sunday and yesterday jest erday depart from abo usual forin in one important particular they seem ti have the peace and welfare of the southern whites as well as those of the southern in fact it is not clear from the readies of the details of the three outbreaks mentioned in our dispatches but what the negroes themselves were the aggressors and in any such race war as that threatened it is evident the loss and suffering growing out of the conflict would not bo less terrible on one side than on the other the situation is one of tra e menace each race viena every move of the other with keen suspicion and at the first forert act though it be in reality a mere accident the rush to arms and violence leada to the bloodiest results A condition BO strained is a constant whose dread shadow bars security the enjoyment of peace and business prosperity it is foreign to american institutions a blight upon the section where it exists it stands in the way of material progress and inculcates as a most important doty a readiness with gun or to lat out the blood of the antagonist the races have not amalgamated they will not they can not they are and will be at mortal enmity perhaps it is the punishment upon the south following the curse of slavery it is a dreadful affliction and the worse feature of all is that no one is able to propose a remedy |
