Y. university received tho following letter from Alma Rich- ards, tho "Mormon Giant," "who won tha high jump at the Olympic gamos: i Stockholm, Swedon, July 9, 1912. E. L. Roberts, Provo, Utah. ? Dear Coach The time has at last gone by that I hae longed for, and I gave them all I had It was sure a j very lucky contost for me, as my j eyes woro very bad and It was hard j for mo to see the bar. My jump was , i 6 feet 3 91-100 Inches. I did It the j ; first trial without touching the bar i ; I did not try at any other heighL j There were fifty-nine Jumpers here but only eleven got over the six-foot i ' mark. The others wero great Jump- j , crs but my luck was better. Tho people treat me fine and I'll give you a few quotations from some of my friends. Mike Murphy said: "Richards yc . can do anything but make love " "When I made my jump a gentlo-man gentlo-man came up to me and said: "Pich- ," ards, wc have Just received a cable 1 from Utah saying that you were j elected governor for life." "Another said: "You have put Utah i on the map, and especially Provo." j "Mr. Sullivan, the secretary of the A. A. U., and tho biggest man in f American athletics, saTd: "I wish we had a hundred clean fellows like you I In our town. "I have so much to tell vou and , , will wait until I got back.
