Show SAVES LIFE 1 I J ii && Athletic Star Risks Death to Rescue a Little Girl Burlington, N. J July 25. The details de-tails of a remarkable feat of heroism wore told here today by admirers of Leon Horner, a local athlotic star, and lnfleldor of the Burlington baseball base-ball team. Horner, who is employed in the railroad rail-road offices here, was riding to his work on the pilot of a switch engine when he saw a four-yoar-old girl playing on the tracks fifty yards ahead. Jumping from the pilot Horner, Hor-ner, by a wonderful burst of speed, reached the child and snatched her out of harm's way. But in toBBing her -clear of the tracks, ho lose his balance and fell with the engine only a few feet away. The engineer saw Horner roll over and then disappear boneath the running board. When the emergency emer-gency brakes had brought the train to a standstill, Horner was found beneath be-neath the axles, but still clinging to the runnlngboard. He had grasped It as his only chance of life and held on until the train stopped His only injuries in-juries were severe bruises. |
