A crusade cru-sade against gambling on Pacific liners lin-ers was Instituted today when U S. District Attorney John L. McNab of the Northern district of California received re-ceived a letter from John N. Mills of Evanston. 111., complaining that fan Ian flourished on tho steamer Korea during the vessel's last trip to this city from the Orient Mills, who Is living In a local hotel, writes that he and others who were aboard the Korea Ko-rea have laid, the matter before the officials of the Pacific Mall Steamship Steam-ship company. ' Mills is authority for the statement that members of the crew conducted the games and that first-class passengers passen-gers crowded about the tables and gambled. According to the letter, many of the passengers held a meeting meet-ing and filed their protest with the officers of the vessel. The gaming continued, however, in sight of officers offi-cers and passengers alike. McNab says he will take the necessary neces-sary action If he finds' that federal statutes have been violated. |
