Show Ull LEHI VOTERS AROUSED. Lehi, July 7. As a result of the j Republican mass meeting held last I Saturday, when Mrs. Effle Ross Day a widow, was declared the nominee for the position of postmaster, to succeed her brother, S. W. Ross, resigned, re-signed, public sentiment here ias been greatly aroused and prominent Republicans declare that a wide rift in the party Is inevitable . When it recently became known that Mr. Ross would resign, a number num-ber of candidates entered the field. Of these, Fred W. Merrill had been most widely Indorsed as the choice of the active party members. When the mass meeting convened, a con- L trolling percentage of women and P young girls was present to support I Mrs. Day. Through this unexpected 1 political 'coup, Mr. Ross defeated Mr. I Merrill and won out for his sister. I Various charges are being nursed B against Mr. Ross by various party j leaders, who declare that the post- master's plan was to keep the title ln the family and secure rental on the postoffice building, which he owns, rather than resign to take yp private business interests out of the city, ns he had announced. Indignation meetings aro predicted, and it is probable that Congressman Howell will be asked to urge the appointment ap-pointment of another candidate. |
