Show THAT SOUTH FORK DAM. The morning paper makes an attack on former flavor Glasmann in which it says : Notwithstanding the howl that Is lelng made by an evening paper because be-cause tho city commissioners mad a special levy of 2 mills to protect tho city's rights In the matter of water-supply and to present William Glasmann Glas-mann from gaining title to tho dam site upon which he Bpent $10,000 of tho city's money, tho present administration bIiows a big Improvement ovor Mr. Glasmann's administration from a financial standpoint. Mr. Glasmann is attending the Progressive convention in Provo. When he returns, he personally can make reply, and we can assure those who so glibly attack him that he will prove quite capable of answering. The great majority of the people of Ogden are familiar with the history of the South Fork reservoir. Mr. Glasmann atterrptcd to raise funds, with which to build the dam. He organized the farmeis and urged upon tho city tho importance of lending its aid in starting the project. Ho had made headway when, to overcome whatever personal prejudice might exist and retard the undertaking, he turned the management of tho enterprise over to others. After waiting six months for a move to be made and after calling the attention of the city officials to tho evident procrastination, he was informed by members mem-bers of the city commission that so far as the city was concerned the whole proceedings up to that time were illegal and they wonld wash k their hands of it. This "was equivalent to administering a death blow to the enterprise, if it were to depend on the city for further support. Ever since, the city has been acting tho part of the dog in the manger. man-ger. Mr. Glasmann had repcatodly offered to reimburse the city for tho money expended and finally, deciding that what tho opposing him most desired was neither the return of the money nor tho success suc-cess of the enterprise, he set about by individual effort U block those r ."I1 ' ' I ' .. i ... i .....uki i, i .. .. . i i. who sought to kill off the project and he proceeded to organize a company. There is a long story back of this which has to do with two bit-terly bit-terly fought campaigns in which certain men developed an intense hatred for the former mayor and openly boasted they would do all in their power to defeat the Glasmann administration in any of its undertakings They are the men who secretly planned to destroy tho prospects for the building or the South Fork reservoir, by tho cooperation co-operation of farmers and city, which were so promising last year. NTot to be defeated by such unwarranted tactics, Mr. Glasmann proceeded pro-ceeded to construct the dam without the let or hindrance of the obstructionists. ob-structionists. The city should rcjoico that by the expenditure of $10,000 such a great enterprise as the South Fork reservoir has been encouraged and that private investors have been found who are willing to risk half a million dollars to push the undertaking to snecess But seom-ingly seom-ingly the one aim is to defeat the building of the dam in order to satisfy a mean spirit of opposition growing, out of past political conflicts. |
