Show - uu LAUNCH THE THIRD PARTYIN INDIANA Indianapolis, July 4. A third political polit-ical party was launched in Indiana yesterday whon the progressive Republicans Re-publicans called from all over tho state by Edwin M. Lee, former Republican Re-publican state chairman, adopted resolutions res-olutions condemning the Chicago convention con-vention and declaring they would not abldo by Its actB. Provision was made for tickets in ovory county as well as a state ticket. During tho speeches Theodore Roosevelt's name frequently brought forth cheers. The conference effected temporary organization by electing Edwin M Lee, state chairman and Harvey B. Stout, Jr., secrotary. Mr. Leo was authorized to appoint an executive committee and to call a state convention. con-vention. W. D. Hedrlck of Indianapolis and G K. Stimson of Lafayette were the leading opponents of the third party Idea. Mr Stimson was a member of the resolution committee and brought in a minority report against tho third party. Mr Stimson said that while ho was with the other numbers at heart, he believed they could win out by remaining with the Republican party. His report was not put to a vote. Mr. Hedrlck expressed the same views, declaring tho progressives could capture tho Republican Btate convention and "clean house." Tho national convention of progressives progres-sives will be Invited to meet in Indianapolis. |
