Show WILL FIGHT CITYS VICE Two Separate Crusades Begin in Portland Reformers Clash. Portland, Ore., Aug. 26. Two separate sep-arate crusades against vice Tvere scheduled to begin in this city today, one headed by Governor West and the other by District Attorney Cameron. Cam-eron. It was the announced Intention of Cameron to summon the members of the municipal vice commission before be-fore tho grand jury In the course of the day, while tho governor planned to place special deputies In the eher-iff's eher-iff's office and also In that of Cameron. Cam-eron. Cameron has not retreated from his intention to prosecute the campaign single-handed. He says he will resist re-sist any effort of the governor to put a deputy prosecutor In his office. Judge Cameron's language vas decidedly decid-edly belligerent and there was every Indication that there would be a clash. Rev. Henry F. Ruseoll Talbot, rector rec-tor of St. David's Protestant Episcopal Episco-pal church, and head of the vice commission, com-mission, declared that the commission commis-sion had secured no evidence with the view of institution prosecutions, Its sole purpose being to recommond remedial legislation. The Information Informa-tion obtained, he said, "although it would convince any fair-minded man of its verity," was of little if any valine. |
